  • Self Portrait

Class last night went really well. I was sorta unenthusiastic about going at first, because we were supposed to be doing contour drawings; the whole idea invoked  terrible repressed art school memories of standing for hours, exhausted,  in a drawing studio making endless boring charcoal drawings and getting criticized for making bad scribbles.

But as you can see, it all turned out okay. After we did a few drawings on newsprint, the instructor gave us some materials to add color and “art” it up a little. I haven’t actually done a fo’real self portrait in ages, and although this isn’t really like the optimal thing i would do as self-expression (I usually am a lot more precise), I think I like it this way. It’s kind of wonky. Sometimes when I draw I get really hung-up and precious about a pre-conceived idea, so it’s good to do something more spontaneous like this. You know, just let the happy accidents happen.

My eyes do look a little weird though, heh.

  • nice!  kind of picasso-esque, in a polite way, you know?

  • bahaha, polite picasso, i like it. Thanks!

Speaking of cubist boobies, during class last night Matt kept telling me how much he liked my drawing. I noticed him staring at it a few times. later on he told me that he especially liked the different shades of purple I used on my boob, but he didn’t think it was appropriate to point that out in front of everyone. snerk.

  • very cool!!  I couldn’t imagine taking on a project like that!  It actually looks very good

  • I like the ‘essence of nip-casso’….tres amusante ma fille…..

  • It’s a pretty good likeness – I can see it. I like the wonky eyes… but that’s just my taste

Did I ever tell you I failed out of art school because I hate art classes?

  • I don’t blame you one bit, Ocean. I nearly failed out of artskool, too. It was very much like bootcamp…. though it didn’t kill me, it definitely made me stronger ; )

    And more cynical. That, too.
