Relatives?
I also found some distant relatives in the graveyard, by the name of Farquhar. An unusual name, I know. For those of you not from the New England area, that’s pronounced “Far-kwar”. Jenny, Robert, Mary, and of course “Lovejoy Leonard” are all buried in one plot on a hillside. All of them long gone far before my time, but it’s nice to know they are nearby.

neat! but in New England, wouldn’t that be Fah-Quah? *snicker*
Farquhar is an Irish name and its pronounced, in Ireland, as Forker, and if your family came over ‘on the boat’ that was probably how they pronounced it too!
That’s very cool!
Too bad my last name is way too common (esp around here) to find something unique like that
Baha, jrat, that’s very true. Come to think of it, the rest of my family does drop their R’s and that’s how they say it. I stand corrected.
And Savon, that’s exactly why we don’t pronounce it FoRker now, heh. That branch probably did come over on the boat from ireland, but for the most part the rest of my ancestors came from Scotland or England. Descended from Stuarts and Stones, specifically- the latter of whom came across on the first boat.
Gr-r-a-g-g-h ! Soap of the Day, my ass.
ryc: Irish and Scottish are Celts and there is a lot of overlap in the families and family names. The Scottish version of Farquar is pronounced as you say, Farqwar, but also as Forker and Fe’r'chur, depending on how Celtic the family are.
I went to school with a girl whose name, Farquarson she insisted was pronounced ‘the English way’ – Farson! A lot of very old names, such as Farquar, do have unusual pronounciations in the UK – the most famous (and close to my ‘real’ name) is Featherstonehaugh which is pronounced Fanshaw (hard to credit isn’t it?)
Ahhhhh that bunny is just toooooo adorable! Saw your comment on another blog and thought your view about the woman stealing her hubby’s Rx for viagra was interesting and had to see what your other views on things were so here I am and I really enjoyed reading and seeing you darling rabbit and I am very interested in making jewelry but I want to make silver things specifically but what you made was really neat and cute!! I’m sure a lot of time went into making it and you did a great job!
