  • I've been re-reading parts from the Mists of Avalon.
Upon reflection, I have decided that I have never, ever read such a
horrible, simpering crock of poop.  Actually, no, I did, it was
the same book, but in tenth grade. And the worst part is, I am
distictly aware that I totally ate up crap like this back in high
school, hanging out with my magic-card wielding friends and wearing
peasant skirts to geometry class. We wrote secret notes to each other
written in runes.. We wanted to be medieval peasant maidens, and
wore fairy pendants we got at the mall. And now I am suffering it all
again, stupid whiny book,  reveling in all the egregarious
butcherings of  wispy celtic names, like Gwenhyfarr, or is is
Gwynyfhrrrhhhghhhkkkgghh? Very medieval. Makes me want to get all
druidic and play the harp. Rant rant rant rant.

At least I have much better taste in literature nowadays. Like Harry Potter.

  • That's a very interesting perspective.  I actually love that book very much, and not because of all the "magic" and faerie-esque, druidic blah blah blah...   I love it because it made me (as a teen) begin to think outside of the box...  to realize that so many of the stories I'd been told were MALE interpretations...   to begin to understand that every story has at LEAST two sides to it...    and, finally, to realize that there were OTHER religions besides Christianity.  That book single-handedly changed my entire life.

I guess this just goes to show that we all have our own personal biases...  and that those biases can change drastically throughout the course of our lives.

  • Their names had to be like that.  They had a lot of phlegm to clear, what with the plagues and all.  ;)

  • I like Sandking's observation. I never thought of cheap celtic drippings as a way to think outside the box. I..  still don't.

I wanna see a high school picture now though.

  • Oh no! You know a SOUR lemon!!

  • Actually, I secretly like the book, because I happen to be of the fairy folk. I'm just making fun of myself, really. ; )

  • Is it that bad?  Was that the book they made a mini-series out of a couple years ago?  I couldn't get into that, either...  :P
